According to data collected between 1-7 April as part of the Informat.ro – INSCOP Research BAROMETER, a sociological survey now in its ninth edition, 3 out of 4 Romanians say they intend to attend the Resurrection (Easter) Service this year.
The Informat.ro – INSCOP Research BAROMETER is a monthly opinion poll conducted by INSCOP Research at the request of the news platform Informat.ro, in partnership with the Strategic Thinking Group think tank.
The Informat.ro – INSCOP Research BAROMETER aims to bring to public attention topics of interest to stimulate national conversations on diverse subjects and key public policies for Romania’s present and future, based on citizen’s opinions, in partnership with prestigious think tanks and academic institutions. It is an initiative intended to contribute to strengthening democracy by using scientific and credible tools that place citizen’s voices at the center of public debate.
Methodology: Data were collected between April 1–7, 2026. Research method: questionnaire-based interviews. Data were collected using the CATI method (telephone interviews). The simple random sample included 1,100 respondents and is representative of the significant sociodemographic categories (gender, age, occupation) for Romania’s non-institutionalized population aged 18 and older. The maximum margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level.
The Significance of Easter
73.4% of those interviewed consider Easter to be primarily a religious holiday. 12.1% view it as a family holiday, 6.9% as a cultural tradition, 5.4% as a commercial holiday, and 0.9% regard this holiday as a time off during the year. 0.4% mention something else, and 0.9% do not know or did not answer.
People who are more likely than average to believe that Easter is primarily a religious holiday include: PSD and AUR voters, individuals over the age of 60, those with primary education, and residents of small urban areas.
PNL voters, individuals aged 45 to 59, those with higher education, and employees in the public sector are significantly more likely than the rest of the population to view Easter as a family holiday.
Attendance at the Easter Resurrection Service Last Year
65.9% of survey participants report that they attended the Easter Resurrection Service on Easter night last year, while 34% say they did not attend. The share of non-responses is 0.1%.
Those who reported attending last year’s Easter Resurrection Service included, in particular: AUR voters, people aged 18 to 44, those with a primary education, and public sector employees.
The following groups did not attend the Easter Resurrection Service last year at a higher rate than the rest of the population: PNL voters, people over 45 years old, and those with a college education.
Intention to Attend This Year’s Resurrection Service
75.6% of those surveyed say they intend to attend this year’s Resurrection Service. On the other hand, 21.7% say they do not intend to do so. 2.7% do not know or did not respond.
The following groups intend to attend this year’s Easter Service at a higher-than-average rate: AUR voters, people aged 30 to 44, those with a primary school education, rural residents, government employees, and people with Facebook and Instagram accounts.
The following groups are less likely to do so than the rest of the population: USR voters, people over 60, those with a college education, and residents of small towns.
Plans for the Easter mini-vacation
76.2% of respondents say they will spend the Easter mini-vacation at home. 9.6% say they will visit relatives or friends, 2.5% plan to take a vacation within the country, and 1.8% plan to take a vacation abroad. 3.7% have not yet decided, 6% say they will not do anything special, and 0.2% do not know or did not answer.
A significantly higher proportion than the rest of the population state that they will spend the Easter mini-holiday at home, particularly: PSD voters, individuals over the age of 60, and rural residents.
PNL and USR voters, individuals aged 30 to 44, those with higher education, residents of the capital, and public sector employees report in higher-than-average proportions that they will visit relatives or friends for Easter.
A higher-than-average proportion mention that they will spend this year’s Easter mini-holiday on vacation in the countryside, particularly: USR voters and individuals aged 30 to 44.
